Core & Options Reports

Core - always on report, can be summarized and filtered
Options - added to report upon request, can add new columns, groups and sub-totals

Method:
- Programmer writes the 90% of program (core and formatting).
- The user selects options when they request the report.
- Program finishes writing itself and produces the report.
Examples of Tools (one of each, not extensive) :
  • Complete - WebFocus (Agile Methodologies and Chaos Revisited: mngt & tech)
  • Cocktail -  Oracle (stored proc) + Crystal Reports + EXCEL
Each approach has their advantages and disadvantages
