From Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865, Vol. 2: "Private Aug. 31, 1861. Shot in hand Dec. 29, 1861. Elected Jr. 2d Lieutenant Apr. 1863. Appears on roll dated Apr. 30, 1864 with following remarks; "Deserted Feb. 29,
1864. Obtained leave of absence for 20 days commencing Feb. 8, 1964, and has written back from his home in Union County, Ga. of his intention to stay." Reuben's brother Asa deserted on 25 April 1864.
Reuben died during a visit to his daughter, Mary (Mollie) BURKETT, at her home at 105 Bray Avenue, Highland Park, TN. His body was shipped to Chenchat, Walker County, GA. He is buried in an unmarked grave at a country churchyard near
