According to letters written by his great-granddaughter, Sarah Ann Holloway DUGGER, Cook BROOKSHIRE was a halfblood Cherokee Indian and a chief. He went west when the Cherokees were driven from North Carolina. He died in the Cherokee Nation.spouse:
There is some confusion regarding Betsy's maiden name (BROOKSHIRE or BROOKS).spouse: Holloway, Linville E. (~1817 - 1881)
In 1908, Betsy's daughter, Sarah Ann Holloway DUGGER, stated in an application to the U S Government regarding participation in Eastern Cherokee funds appropriation, that her grandfather (Betsy's father) was John BROOKS, and her
great-grandfather was Cook BROOKS.
However, in the death record of Betsy's son, Linnville, Jr., the name BROOKSHIRE was used. ®8
According to Frances Hill WATTS, a descendant and researcher of this line, "Sarah Ann could not read or write. I believe the person taking the (government) application, understood Sarah to say 'Brooks' instead of 'Brookshire'."
George BRUTON was born near Ferguson's and Tyger River, Spartanburg, SC. He served as a Major in the Revolutionary War.spouse: Addington, Martha (1762 - )George BRUTON is believed to have first married Martha ADDINGTON in 1782. He then married Sarah "Sally" ADDINGTON after 1 Mar 1787, in Spartanburg District, SC. It has not been proven that the two ADDINGTON sisters married the same George
BRUTON, but it is believed to be true.
The extended BRUTON family is quite large and researchers do not always agree on the children of George. He moved his family to Kentucky in the 1790s where other BRUTON families lived. The children listed here are not proven to be his. It
appears likely that Martha ADDINGTON is the mother of George BRUTON's three older children.Title -

Sarah's family name of BURSON has not been certified, but has been written in family histories as Sarah Burson, Sarah Buson, Elizabeth Burson, Elizabeth Buson, and Sarah Elizabeth Burson. She may be the daughter of Joseph BURSON and Rachelspouse: Addington, Henry (1727 - 1787)
POTTS.
The BURSON family were Quakers. There is no evidence to indicate that the ADDINGTONs were Quakers. There is the possibility that Sarah was condemned for marrying outside the church and would not have been readmitted unless her husband became
a Quaker. Evidently, Henry ADDINGTON never joined the Quaker denomination, even though he lived in Quaker neighborhoods and some of his children became Quakers.
In his will, Henry ADDINGTON gave to his son, William, the responsibility for the care of Sarah, but she did not stay with William. In 1806, she moved to Indiana with her son, John.
Sarah is presumed to have been buried in Friends Community Cemetery, Chester, Indiana. Her obituary in the Richmond, Indiana, Public Ledger of 25 March 1826 gives her age as 100 years. The 1827 Directory of Richmond, Indiana lists early
settlers, including John ADDINGTON and states, "Addington's mother came with him, died at 103 years of age."®5, pg. 2Burial - [place: Friends Cemetery, Chester, IN]
