John Calvin MATHESON was born in either North or South Carolina and traveled to Butler, TN, where he met and married Rhoda LEWIS. They lived in a two room sod house until Rhoda's father built them an eight room wooden structure on his farm.spouse: Lewis, Rhoda Eleanor Amason (1850 - 1899)
In 1884, they moved to Codel, Rooks County, KS. John built a four room sod house with wooden floors, where they lived until her health began to fail (tuberculosis).
Later they moved to Cherokee, KS, then to Pawhuska, OK, arriving there on 4 Nov 1982.
By this time, John had also contracted tuberculosis. Some time between 1892 and 1899, they moved to Eastern Colorodo for the health effects of the high, dry climate. They remained about one year, returning to Pawhuska before Rhoda's death in
1899. John remained in Pawhuska until his death in 1905. They are both buried there.
There is much legend surrounding John MATHESON, but it is known that he served as a Sergeant, Company "F", 13th Tennessee Calvary.
