The 2009 LENERT family reunion was held on Saturday, May 16th, in a
change from our past custon of holding it on the Sunday before Father's
Day.
It was again hosted by Charles and Cheryl Lenert at their home on
FM 2920 out in the Hockley, TX area. About 25 family members were
in attendance -- an enjoyable time was had by all.
Highlight of the day was our out of state Lenerts from California,
Louisiana and New Mexico being in attendance.
The reunion for 2010 will be held the middle of May; again at Charles
and Cheryls on FM 2920 the Hockley, TX area.
Notes on the Lenert Family's Journey to Texas
The Luenert's {Lenert} sailed from Bremen, Germany on September 19,
1846; Carl Heinrich Augustus and Sophie Elenore Augustine Molle Luenert/
Lenert, with their three children, Ernst, Albert and Doretta. Agnes was
born on the voyage. The Atlantic crossing took from three to four months;
and they arrived at the Port of Galveston on December 20, 1846. August
was a miner by trade and had signed an emigration contract with a German
firm. The overland destination was Round Top in Fayette County, Texas;
however the family was diverted to Austin County near the Latium community
to await fulfillment of the contract. After the failure of the contract;
the family moved to near Round Top, where August purchased a farm. Three
more children were born to the couple; Mary, Anna and Louisa. Both Agnes
and Louisa died in childhood. After the death of Sophie, August returned
to his native Germany; Sophie is buried in the Florida Chapel Cemetary just
south of Round Top.
