(20), the oldest children of J.J. Taylor and Jemima, as having been born in NC. The next 5 children, ages 9 to 17, are listed as born in Alabama, and the youngest, G.W. age 7, is born in Tennessee.
According to Mike Cobb, Jesse was in Fayette Co. AL in 1850.
There is a Jesse Taylor, age 20-30, listed in the Anson Co. Census in 1840. He has two male children under 5 and a female age 15-20 living with him. He lives two doors from Callum Moore and close to Isaac Little and Stephen Hasty.
He appeared in the census in 1860 in Henderson Co. TN.1469 J.J. Taylor was listed as 40, Jemima 39, Stephen 22, L 200 (m), Mary A. 17, S.J. 15 (f), W.J. 13 (m), Penelope 11, A.J. 9 (m), G.W. 7 (m).
In 1870, Jemima, age 50, was listed as head of household. He served in the military about 1861 in 51st Tennessee Infantry Regiment.259 He served with his sons Stephen and Daniel and was captured during the Tullahoma Campaign in the Fall of 1862. He died in Jan 1863 in West Alton, Illinois.1372,1470 According to Mike Cobb, Jesse died in a Union Army POW camp from disease and exposure, after being captured in the Fall of 1862. He was buried about 25 Jan 1863 in West Alton, Madison Co., Illinois.1104 His grave is unmarked, but his name appears on a stone monument at the site. Parents: Living.

J. TAYLOR and Jemima ROSS???? were married in 1837 in St. Clair Co. AL.259 I had originally believed
that Jesse's wife, Jemima, was Dugal's sister Jemima. However, the 1881 administration
of Dugald Ross (Sr) estate lists the heirs of Jemima Bennett, wife of John Bennett
and they all still lived in North Carolina. This seems to exclude Jemima Taylor
from being Jemima Ross.
Other Ross researchers have also believed Jemima Ross was the wife of Jesse Taylor.
Mike Cobb, of Ft Worth, has been told this Jesse Taylor is the one who married
Jemima "Ross" Lawley in St Clair AL in 1837. The Ross tie-in came
from a descendant of Steven Taylor and Nancy Ross. If this were true, then Jesse
and Jemima must have moved to NC for at least two years (when the older two boys
were born) and then moved back to Alabama for the birth of the next 5 children.
This does not seem likely and the Ross connection seems even less likely.
In Feb 1866 Term of Henderson County Court, Jemima, widow of J.J. Taylor has
dower case versus children and their guardian ad litem? T.G. Maness. Jemima,
widow of J.J. Taylor, claimed her dower, listed Stephen and Daniel Taylor as
of age, and Sarah, Caroline, Caswell, Jackson, and George W. minors. Children
listed in 1860 census were males: Stephen 22, L.B 20, W.J. 13, A.J. 9, G.W. 7.
Females were Mary A., S.J., Penelope. Maybe Penelope was Penelope Caroline?
Was Caswell the child named A.J. or maybe a later child? Note that Caswell
is a name that was used in the Ross family.
