One of these is probably Martha and the other likely Sarah, as his 1843 will indicates they are unmarried. Not sure where I got the exact date of birth for Martha. She was living on 18 Apr 1882 in Lawrence Co. AR.1356 Martha Little appointed Marcus Austin as her attorney to collect her portion of the estate of her father Dougald Ross [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: Pension Appl] Martha applied for a pension in Strawberry Arkansas on 17 June 1890 based on Jesse's illness and death after serving in the war. Martha stated she was 60 and Jesse served in Co. C of the 6th Tenn. Cavalry. Children under 16 at the time of their father's death were Alexander, Mary C., Calvin, and Hosea. Persons giving statements included: Dugal W. Ross, her brother, who provided a statement supporting her marriage to Jesse and the fact that she had not remarried; Theophilus Holmes, who said he had known her since he was a school mate in North Carolina and knew she had married Jesse; Mary A. Tipton who stated Martha was her aunt and Jesse was her father's cousin and that Martha lived with her family during the war; Jemima Esteridge, who stated that Martha was her mother's sister (she was daughter of Kezia Ross and Patrick Presley/Preslar); John B. Wadley of Pottersville, Howell Co. MO, who stated he knew Jesse during the war and after, that he lived within 2 miles of him after the war, and saw him the day before he died; R.C. White of Strawberry who said he was present in Jesse's last sickness; John Q.A. Little, who held the candle for the magistrate when Jesse and Martha were married.

To be 45+ in 1810, he must have been 35-45 in 1800, making him born 1755-1765. He appeared in the census between 1810 and 1820 in Anson Co. NC.218 In 1800, Martin Ross was listed on page 222 between Isaac Brumbelough and Isaac Price and near Charles and David Griffin. He had one male under 10 (1790-1800), 3 males 10-16 (1784-1790), himself 26-45 (1755-1774); two females under 10 (1790-1800) and one 26-45 (1755-1774).
In 1810, Martin Ross was listed on page 30, next to Solomon Griffin and Jno Meggs? There were two males 16-26, (1784-1794) one male 45+, 4 females under 10 (1800-1810), 1 10-16 (1794-1800), and one 26-45 (1765-1784). No slaves. NC.1359 I am guessing that the Martin Ross who lived next door to William Ross and Christian Reddick in the 1787 census of Martin Co. was this Martin. He had one male 21+, two under 21 or over 60, three females and four slaves. He died in Jan 1828 in NC.1267,1360 Will probated Feb. Term 1828, sighned Jan 27, 1828. Son Asher Ross, Hames H. Blount (son of Charles W. Blount); John Wood, Exr. Test. John E. Wood, Jacob Harrell. Hathaway says Rev Ross organized the NC Baptist State Convention. His son Asher never married, another son Martin Ross Jr., married Eliza Townsend. He was buried about Jan 1828 in Hertford, Perquimans Co. NC.1361 "Martin Ross, first minister so far as records prove, made his home on a farm near Hertford now owned by Mr. John O. White, a prosperous farmer, and he, with his good wife, lie buried on the land not far from Mr. White's house."
He was Primitive and Mission Baptist Church.1362,1363 Martin, James, and Reuben, according to the Martin County History, were prominent in the religious field. "The Ross brothers were the forerunners in advancing the Missionary Baptist Church in North Carolina. The authors of Hassells' "Church History", state that the missionary movement was started by Elder Martin Ross when he preached in Conoho Log Chapel, not far from Oak City in 1803. Ross was a leader in the movement to start the N.C. Baptist Convention in a meeting held in Greenville."
"He pastored Skewarkey Church from its establishment until 1793 when he went to Yeopin Primitive Church in Chowan Association." According to the Dictionary of NC Biography (http://www.wfu.edu/academics/history/HST_WFU/ross.htm), Yeopin Baptist ?Church was 10 miles west of Edenton in Chowan County. "He continued in this charge until 1806, when he was called to the church at Bethel in Perquimans County, "a church which had been formed by his own hand." He served as pastor of Bethel until his death in 1828."

Not sure what connection, if any, this Martin Ross is to our Ross family.

She died on 16 Jan 1946.719,1366 She was buried on 18 Jan 1946 in Coop Prairie Cem., Mansfield AR.1366 According to her obituary, the funeral was to be held at 2 p.m. Friday.
At her funeral service "Grandpa looked down at Grandma in the casket and said, "Now, Mary, you can sing!"
I have thus far been unable to locate a death certificate in either Ark. or Ok.. Martin Funeral Home in Mansfield sent me a burial record (46002 (41)). It listed her as a resident of Mansfield Ark. They also sent me a record for Ditty Pop (Will Little, Mary Jane's son) which stated in the resident block "Died in Fayetteville Ark." Thus, I am projecting that Mary Jane died in Mansfield. It stated that her father was Duke Ross, born in NC. It did not list her mother. The doctor was Dr. Woods and the minister was DW Will. Date and place of birth and death are consistent with our records.

Melvinia "Viney" ROSS was born on 25 May 1880 in Henderson Co. TN.476,1114,1127 Since Melvinia was 6 days old when the census was enumerated June 14 & 15, 1880, she would be born in June 1880 not May 25, 1881, as the bible says. I am guessing that the month and day were correct in the bible, but the year was wrong. However, Dugall's pension statement made January 15, 1898, also listed her birth date as May 25/81 and Silas' as Feby 16/82. Perhaps it was just a very tight 0 and was 80. She was buried in Lexington Cemetery, Henderson Co. TN.248 The Veteto sisters call her Viney. Parents: Dugal Washington ROSS and Nancy Jane JOHNSON.

Reuben (the son of Elder Reuben) had picked up a bombshell from the battle ground at Manassas and it eventually ended up at Nancy's home. When Nancy's son Eugene and others were trying to extract the powder, the shell exploded, gravely injuring Eugene. The shock of this, coupled with the news of the fall of Fort Donelson, were more than she could bear. She was buried after 23 Feb 1862 in Cedar Hill, Montgomery Co. NC.387,1370 According to Calvin, the cemetery is across the street from the Edwards home. "That would be the old home of James Edwards and Nancy Ross which is across the road from the so called Edwards Cemetary #2 where James and Nancy are buried. The widow ( who is ill health) of Troy Lee Edwards, son of Norfleet Edwards who was son of Troy Edwards lives yet in that house which has been handed down thru the family all these
