John C. ROSS1223 was born about 1861 in TN.1229 In the 1870 census, Jno C. was 9. It is not certain that the John C. Ross who is father of Sol, Dovie, Nancy Ann and Bob, is the same John C. Ross that is the son of Cally Ross. But it does seem highly likely. Parents: Callum ROSS and Nancy MOORE.

But Rilly is shown as keeping house, so probably was female and John's wife. Next door is the Stephen Taylor family. Stephen, age 31, Nancy A. age 25, b NC, Sarah age 9, William J. age 7, Mary H. 5, Penelope 3, Martha, 1 and John Taylor, 21. Dugal Ross is household 127.
Dugall's pension application provides John's birthdate of 3-19-49. He owned sold 158 acres to K.W. David on 26 Dec 1872 in Henderson Co. TN.1336 The land John E. and Rilla A. Ross sold was in District No. 11. He appeared in the census in 1880 in McNairy Co. TN.119 In 1880, a John E. Ross was listed in McNary Co. TN, which borders Henderson Co. on the south. This Ross is the right age to be Dugal's son John Elbert. The census lists him as 31, born in NC. He has a wife R.A. 28 and children Jas. R age 9 and MSJ age 3 (female). Also living with him is his father-in-law Ransom Baucom age 78, born in NC; and three sisters-in-law: Sarah L., age 18, b TN; Nancy J.. age 36, b NC; M.M., age 24, b TN.
He died on 18 Apr 1900 in McNairy Co. TN.118,1337 R.A. Ross was appointed Administratry in the estate of John E. Ross on Dec. 17, 1900. Cemetery's of McNairy County lists his death date.

The Confederate Veteran quoted a letter from Gen. J. M. Schofield to "Dr. John W. Ross, youngest brother of Gen. Ross." Parents: James ROSS.

He lived Henderson Co. TN in Henderson Co. TN in 1880.476 In 1880, Joseph, Viney E., William H., James A., Amanda, and a female named Rosa A. Haney, age 13 (looks like "adopted") were listed on pg 349, family 124.
He appeared in the census in 1900 in Lexington, Henderson Co. TN.4 Joseph F. Ross, farmer, was listed as 49, born April 1851 in NC, parents born in NC, married 12 years. With him was wife Samantha R., 43, born April 1857 in TN, parents born in NC. Also listed were three sons: James R., 26, Dec. 1873; Chas F., 11, Jan. 1889; and Jno A., 10, May 1890; and one daughter Mary E., 5, b Dec. 1894.
The next household does not list a surname, indicating that person must also be named Ross. The given name is Manuel W; he is 22. His wife's name is listed as Sudie. He was living on 29 Jul 1901 in Henderson Co. TN.1343 J.F. Ross, age 50, a resident of Henderson Co. TN, Post Office address of Lexington TN, signed an affidavit for Nancy J. Ross's pension claim.
He died on 22 Jun 1928 in Chester Co. TN.1342 Note to Irma from Laura Waddle, Henderson Co. mentions obituary for Joseph Franklin Ross. From census had his name as Joseph H. Parents: Dugal Washington ROSS and Penelope Allen MOORE.

E. DENNISON. Joseph Franklin ROSS and Vinny E. DENNISON were married about
1870.38,349 Viney was listed in the 1870 census with the Dugal
Ross family. She was listed as 16, the same age as Jemima A. She was a puzzle
until Harry Ross pointed out that Joseph F. Ross was found in the later censuses
with Vinny (apparently wife). Apparently Joseph and Vinney married prior to
the 1870 census and were living with Dugal and family.
Marriages of Some Henderson County, Tennessee Residents lists Joseph F. Ross,
son of D.W. Ross, married to Vina Dennison about 1872. Another date provided
is 6-22-1928, but I do not know what this note means. Perhaps that is when Viney
died, as we believe Joseph died earlier. Children were: William H. ROSS, James A.
ROSS, I.F. ROSS, Amanda W. ROSS.

Kezia C. ROSS was born on 22 May 1856 in TN.1344,1345 Kugise?(Kuziu?) C, age 13, was listed in the 1870 census. She was listed as K.C. Ross, age 4 in the 1860 census. Dugall did not list her as one of his living children in his pension papers filed Aug. 4, 1898.
Harry provided the birthdate from a bible record that had been in the possession of heirs of Silas Hosea Ross. The location of the bible is currently unknown. She died before 4 Aug 1898.1236 Harry Ross corrected my interpretation on Kezia's name. I had previously had it as Angine based on the 1870 census listing, but in comparing another name starting with an "A", it is clear that the first letter is "K."

Luke ROSS was born on 29 Dec 1775 in Martin Co. NC.463,1348 Luke was not listed in the Martin Co. census for 1787 or 1790 and in 1800 he was 16-26 (1774-1784), with one female the same age, one female over 45 (possibly his widowed mother) and one male under 10. He was listed as if an adult in John's will in 1794 and was married by 1800, so likely was born about 1774. The Gene Ross book provided the exact date, but I do not know his source. He appeared in the census in 1800 in Martin Co. NC. Luke was listed as 16-26, with one male under 10, one female 16-26 and 4 slaves. [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: moved]463 According to the book summary in the Family History Catalog, Luke took his family, including 8 of his 9 then living children, to Georgia. They settled on the east side of Ocmulgee River in what is now East Macon, Georgia. The eldest son Henry Grimes Ross had moved there in 1818. He died on 10 Sep 1844 in East Macon, Georgia.463 Parents: John ROSS and Elizabeth BENNETT.

Ross's descendants, probably because she was already married and therefore was not listed in the Thomas G. Ross household in 1850.
