TN.42 Ira is the author of "The Presson Letter," an 8 page letter full of information about Presson and Little relatives, his trip back home to Monroe NC, and his trip to Arkansas to see our Little family, etc.
According to The Little Legend, he was a leading citizen of Camden. He taught school, was a rural mail carrier, and was appointed post master of Camden. He ran for the legislature, but lost. "Well you have crossed the century mark in years. Here's hoping that your second century will be brighter, better and more pacific. It should be, as you hae all these years of experience behind you to guide you. I am sure that you will profit by having this asset which is denied to more than 99% of your fellow travelers along the way. If we meet no more on this earth of error, imperfection and disappointment, may we clasp hands in the land of perpetural sunshine and bliss and there find out something about which we have long hope, guessed, conjectured, anticipated and talked about. Your Cousin, s/ Ira L. Presson" He served in the military.93 Ira's letter refers to I.N.'s service in the Civil War and to his comrades in arms. He says "Henry F. Stigall, who enlisted under you when you were Recruiting Officer for the Gray Army died about 2 years ago." The Presson Letter was written by Ira Love Presson to I.N. Presson in 1937. James PRESSON Jr was born about 1798 in NC.1193,1195 He lived Benton Co. TN in Benton Co. TN before 1835.1195,1196,1197 James Presson obtained 200 acres land in 1837and continued to acquire land in the 5th and 6th districts over the years. He deeded land for Methodist Episcopal Church So. 6th Civil District including the Church known as the Post Oak Grove Church.
He was on the first tax list of 1836 along with his brothers. He paid a tax of 37 and a half cents and a state tax of 12 and a half cents. He died in 1875 in Benton Co. TN.1193,1195 He signed a will on 30 Jul 1875 in Benton Co. TN.1195 He was 77 years old and "feeble in body" when he signed his will. He provide: "my deceased wife's and my graves to be pailed in; to my son Thomas A. Presson $2 cash, my shawl and half my wearing clothes except my overcoat; to my daughter Frances Eleanor Crossnoe ten dollars; to my daughter Patsey Step ten dollars; to my daughter Tabitha Cuml Watson five dollars; to the heirs of my deceased daughter Ann J. Little five dollars; to my daughter Penelope C. Holland ten dollars cash, a note I hold against her husband J.G. Holland for two dollars and ten cents, and my family bible; to my granddaugher Kermisha Ann Cain my trunk; to my son David C. Presson my overcoat and one half of my wearing clothes; to my grandson Emerson E. Presson my yearling that is at my son David C. Presson's; to my three children towit: James F. Presson, Sinda R. Cain, and David C. Presson three fourths of all my other property real and personal equally; to my two gandchildren, to wit, Cintha Caroline Crossnoe and Henry Allan Crossnoe the other fourth to be equally divided with the exception of one dollar which I will to my little granddaughter Geneva Allice Kenedy and which is to come out of Henry Allen's interest. The bequeath to my granddaughter Cintha Caroline Crossnoe is on the condition that she should not marry Allexander Wadkins but should she marry said Wadkins before she arrives at the age of 21 years she is to have no interest but what would otherwise be her interest I will to be equally divided between the aforesaid J.F. Presson, Sijnda R. Cain, David C. Presson, and Henry Allen Cresnoe." His executor was his son J.F., and witnessing the will were J.C. and A.G. McDaniel. Parents: William PRESSON and UNK(PRESSON).

VA.1198 He was baptized on 29 Mar 1740.1199 [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: moved]1199 Two years after his father's death John went to Sussex County, VA and voluntarily put himself into apprenticeship for a term of 2 years and 10 months to his cousin John Presson, a cabinetmaker. The appentice papers, dated 20 April 1759, state "that John Presson the Son of Robert Presson Hath put himself and by these Presents Doth Voluntarily and of his free will and ...himself apprentice to John Presson Jun. of Sussex..."
[The papers do not say Robert Presson "decd", which makes me wonder if Robert Presson died in 1757 as stated or if it is a different Robert Presson.] He owned 25 acres on 15 Mar 1762 in York Co. VA.1200 John Presson finished his apprenticeship and returned to York Co. and on 15 Mar 1762, sold his land to John Presson of Elizabeth City County. The land is described as the "land being purchased by Robert Presson decd. father to the said Joh Presson." He signs as John Jr, meaning he was younger than the John Presson who was buying the land.

Lemuel F PRESSON. Ira Love Presson says in his letter that on the fourth day of his trip to Union Co. NC the went to Unionville section of the county and "We went to the home of Ethan Allen Presson, son of Lemuel F. Presson, and grandson of Samuel Presson, Sr." With both Henry and Ethan Allen, they visited the Presson cemetery where Lemuel was buried. What relation those men were to each other is not explained: they may have both been grandsons of Lemuel, but the writing leads you to believe otherwise.
Ira also says that on this trip he swabs in Anson Co. the Power of Attorney executed by Allen C. Presson (I.N.'s father) "a year prior to your advent, or coming into the world. This Power of Attorney was to Lemuel F. Presson." Parents: Samuel PRESSON.

According to The Little Legend (and probably The Presson Family of the South), Nicholas lived in York County from 1690 thill his death in 1732. There are no records of his owning land in the county. He died in 1732 in York Co. VA.1191 "Proven records begin with Nicholas Presson who in 1690 is listed in the Register of Charles Prish, Yourk County, Virginia as the father of a daughter. We do not know the place or date of Nicholas Presson's birth but it must have been by 1670 at the latest."
It appears that all of the data recorded for this family in The Little Legend and probably that in Pressons of the South is based on the Charles Parish Register.
