He appeared in the census in 1790 in Martin Co. NC.27 The 1790 census listed him as David Knowell in Martin County. He was living in 1800 in Anson Co. NC.27 In 1800, David was listed in Anson County, with no property. He signed a will on 15 Jun 1837 in Anson Co. NC.27,1164 Listed his heirs as Eli Franklin, his son-in-law, and Mary Diggs, his daughter-in-law. Eli and Mary were likely his wife's children. NC.27 His petition for bounty land, dated 15 Oct. 1822, stated he enlisted 1 Jan. 1781 in Windsor, Bertie Co. NC and served in the NC Line. He was discharged Jan. 1783. David Nowell, testified to his service. He was living in 1783 in Bertie Co. NC.27 Was listed as married, without property in the 1783 tax list. He appeared in the census in 1787 in Martin Co. NC.1165 Josiah Nowel was listed with 2 females. He owned Purchased 100 acres on 28 Feb 1788 in Martin Co. NC.27 He moved with his father to Martin Co., where he bought land from John Ross Sr. (Martin Co. Book B, p 172). The purchase was witnessed by James Nowell and John Ross Jr. He sold the land to James Bawlls in 1790 (Bk B, p 247). He owned Purchased land on 23 Jan 1799 in Anson Co. NC.27 In 1799, Josiah purchased land from David Mason in Anson Co. (Anson Co. Bk H, p 130). He appeared in the census in 1820 in Anson Co. NC.58 Ms Starling says "Grandmother Sallie died at her son James house during the Civil war, aged one hundred and ten. Several of our family lived to be one hundred and more." She was also known as Sally.

She says Dr. Peacock "lived and practiced medicine for many years up the road from you in Gentry." I assume that means in Ark. near Fayetteville. She states he was from Strawberry in Lawrence Co. and Pangburn in Sharp Co. and died around 1961 in his 90s.
