There he reared 19 children and died on his farm in 1867. He appeared in the census in 1860 in White Oak Township, Jefferson Co. AR.1137 Henry Mullis was living next door to Alex Polk, born NC. With Henry, age 45, were Esther, 41 b NC; James P., 20, b NC; Eli H. 19, John M. 18, Ellen J. 17, Sarah A. M. 15, Caroline 14, Dugal R. 13, Martha G. 11, Mary M. 10; Henry G.R. 9, Sandra C. 6 Lydia A. 5,; Ashley B. (male) 3 NC; Irwin A. 2, AR; Esther A. 3 mos. AR. He owned Cleveland Co. AR on 1 Apr 1861 in Cleveland Co. AR.1138 A Henry Mulis obtained 157.22 acres in Section 7, 8S, 11W in Cleveland Co. AR (adjacent to Dallas Co.) in 1861. In 1882, Dugal R. Mullis obtained 160 acres in Section 6, 8S, 11W. John Mullis obtained 40 acres in 1869 in Section 12. Cary Tolson obtained several plats in Sections 2, 3, 32, and 33, 10S, 12W in 1860 and 1861. He died in 1867 in Dallas Co. AR. Reared 19 children per the Monroe Enquirer, October 23, 1958. The same article had his father listed as Thomas Ross Mullis. Parents: Charles MULLIS and Rebecca CAUDLE.

Arkansas.53 In the 1850 census and in the 1884 power of attorney of the heirs of Lydia Tolson and Esther Mullis, his middle initial is listed as "P." But according to the Monroe Enquirer article, his name was James Ross Mullis. Parents: Henry MULLIS and Ester ROSS.
Jane Baxter MULLIS was born on 4 Jun 1819.243 She died on 13 Aug 1907.243,1139 Much of the information provided on the descendants of Jane Mullis and David Nowell Liles was from The Carolinas Genealogical Society Bulletin article submitted by Margaret Hall Mask, 210 Medford Rd. Wilmington Rd. Wilmington De. 19803. This article had her death as 13 Aug. 1907.
However, a death notice in the Aug. 31, 1910 issue of the Biblical Recorder stated that she died on 20 August. 1910. The notice is published on Julie Ganis's web page on Rootsweb. It says Jane was 94 on her birthday June 4. It said her husband David N. Liles died in 1897 and listed her surviving children: Mr. W. D. LILES and Mesdames James T. HELMS and L.D. SIMPSON, of Union; Mrs. M.E. CAUDLE, of Wadesboro; S.H. LILES, of Ruby, S.C.; S.N. LILES of Jonesboro; Mrs. R.J. BAUCOM of Raeford; D.A. LILES, of Morven; E.F LILES, of Aberdeen.
She was buried in Mullis Graveyard, Union Co. NC.243 The cemetery is described as near Tarleton's Mill, 3 miles from Marshville. Parents: Solomon R. MULLIS and Edith GRIFFIN.

John MULLIS292 was born about 1720 in Essex Co. VA.434 Before 1780 he was Mill Operator and Owner in Rappahannock River VA.434 John Mullis operated a mill on Rappahannock River until after the American Revolution when the family moved to Anson Co. NC. [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: moved]1140 According to the Mullis Melange, Volume I, John Mullis moved to Anson/Union Co. about 1782. It states that the "Mullis family along with their kinsmen the Griffins, the Stewards, the Edwards, and the Brewers came into Anson County, N.C. where they began to buy land on Richardson's Creek setting up their homes and marrying within their group." He died about 1785 in Anson Co. NC.102 [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: moved]332 He is recorded in Orange CO., NC on the first taxable list of 1755, three years after that county was formed. According to 609 WFT CD14 #2236, he moved in 1739.
The Monroe Enquirer October column cited elsewhere lists three children of John Mullis of VA (Mary Elizabeth Mullis Griffin, Theodosia Mullis Griffin, and Solomon Mullis) who moved with their Griffin spouses to Anson Co. NC after the Revolutionary War. "Whether John Mullis came with Thomas Griffin (from Essex Co. VA to NC) and Elizabeth Mullis is not certain. It is felt he did, since they all settled around Richardson Creek near where now is the Mullis-Ford (Roard) Bridge, probably named for John." The Monroe Enquirer, Oct. 23, 1958.
There appears to be no proof of who the mother of John's children was. The Mullis Melange lists a possible marriage to a Rebecca Chaney on April 22, 1742 in Cambridge Massachusetts. There is the listed marriage to Susanna Dancer and the report of a marriage to Margaret Brumbelow.

John MULLIS and Margaret BRUMBELOW were married.221 According to the Mullis Melange, Margaret Mullis was listed as a widow in the Anson Co. 1790 census and Peggy Mullis was listed in 1800. There were several Brumbelows living near Peggy Mullis in the 1830 census. This adds credence to the report of a marriage between John and Margaret Brumbelow.

Even 1758 is too late if, as according to some researchers, her daughter Nancy Griffin was born in 1770. Parents: John MULLIS and Susan DANCER.

NC.332 He is buried in the Mullis Graveyard, South of Richardson Creek and Tarlton Mill Bridge. The October 23 column in The Monroe Enquirer lists Pinckney and Jacob C. Mullis as brothers and great-grandsons of John Mullis. Since Solomon Mullis is the only male child of John Mullis listed as having moved to Anson Co. NC, I am guessing that Solomon is the grandfather but am showing him as father until I find the link.
