The North Carolina Argus carried a court notice Oct. 20, 1862, re Petition for Settlement of the estate of Moses Moore whcih listed William and Samuel Moore as administrators and defendants: John Nash and wife Judy, Dugald Ross and wife Martha, Callum ross and wife Nancy, John Green and Edmund Green, all of whom resided outside the state. There was a Moses Moore in Pitt County at same time Jacob, Isaac, and Pleasant Little lived there. Parents: James MOORE.

Nancy was 24, Wm T. was 4 (b 1846), Sarah C. was 10 mos. They were married.1123 The Petition for settlement of the estate of Moses Moore listed Callum Ross and wife Nancy. Children were: William Thomas ROSS, Sarah E. ROSS, Hugh M. ROSS, W.E. ROSS, James S. ROSS, Mary K. ROSS, John C. ROSS, Penelope ROSS.

Penelope Allen MOORE was born in 1823. She died on 22 Sep 1877 in Henderson Co. TN.1124,1125 The General Affidavit filed by E.S. Stegall to support Nancy Jane's application for Widow's benefits stated that "The soldiers former wife died Sept 22nd 1877. I furnished coffin and burial expenses and by referring to my books I get the date." In a questionaire filled out Aug 4, 1898, Dugall stated that Penelope Allen Moore died Sept 1879 in Henderson Co. As he did not fill the questionairre out himself (it was signed with his mark, unlike his other forms), it likely is a transcription error.

By 1880, Dugal is listed with wife Nancy J., age 29. Living with them are Charles T., son, age 17, and Mahalia, dau, 6 days old (census was enumerated 14 and 15 June.)

She was buried about 22 Sep 1877 in Center Hill Cemetery, Lexington, TN.1126 Dugal's great-granddaughter said that there were other stones next to Dugal when she was a child. She said her Grandpa told her they were Penny and some of the children. Parents: Moses MOORE and Martha VAUGHN.

According to 1870 census, Joseph H. was born in NC abt 1852 and Jemima & Viney (twins) were born in TN abt 1854. A Calvin Stegall, age 43, from NC, is listed close to John Ross. Stegall was a prominent name in Anson/Union NC. Stegall had dau named Viney - as did Dugal Children were: Nancy Adeline ROSS, Penelope Ann ROSS, James Moses ROSS, John Elbert ROSS, Joseph Franklin ROSS, Jemina Asberry ROSS, Kezia C. ROSS, Mary Jane ROSS, Charles Tinsdale ROSS.
