Since Perilla was born about in 1858, it is probably a good guess that Jesse died between 1857 and 1860. Parents: Amos MANESS and Mary CAUDLE. Spouse: Rebecca BIVENS. Hosea was listed as a farmer. He had apparently already died by the time the census was conducted and, according to census guidelines, was listed last in the household. Hosea did not mention Rachel or his wife in his will. Thus this relationship is not proven. The surname Maness was provided by Annie Traywick and suggested by Nancy Sevier. LITTLE, Living, Keys Dwight LITTLE. [Little] MARY1107 was born between 1765 and 1770.649,1013,1108,1109,1110 In 1790, Jacob had three females listed with him in Pitt Co., but of course no ages were given. With Jacob in 1800 were one female over 45, one 26-45, one 10-16, and two under 10. I am guessing that the older woman, b before 1755, was his mother, mother-in-law, or an older sister. The woman 26-45 (b 1755-1774) would likely have been his wife. In 1810, there is one female 26-45 (b 1765-1784) and one 16-26. The older female is gone. Using both censuses would narrow down the supposed wife's birth to 1765-1774. In 1820, there is one female listed listed as 45+ ( b bef 1775). In 1830, the oldest woman is 60 to 70 (b 1760-1770). Likely she was born 1765-1770 and would have been 22-27 years old when Hosea was born. While it is not at all certain, that Jacob's wife and the mother of these children was named Mary, there are three deeds in 1811 and 1817 in Anson Co. where Jacob and Mary Little signed as witnesses. Two of the 1811 deeds were to Thomas Griffin whose family seems to be closely aligned with Jacob Little in the late 1790s and early 1800s. The 1817 deed from Amos Griffin to John Brewer was proven in court in 1839 by Thomas Griffin who certified that the signatures were of Jacob and Mary Little, both of whom were now deceased.
