LITTLE912,913 was born between 1626 and 1642 in maybe Corsham, Wiltshire
County, England.914 Because
of our DNA match with Barry Little of Wiltshire England, whose line is traced
to Corsham in the 1600s, it seemed that our John Little might be the one who
migrated to Barbados in 1657. There are two possible christenings for a John
Little at Corsham: 1626 & 1635. The website sponsored by Price and Associates,
cited Pether W. Coldham, The Bristol Registers of Servants Sent to Foreign Plantations,

to the American Colonies, 1630-1660," unpub. Ph.D. dissertation, University
of Virginia, 1977, 229.
However, the record of Jon. Liddel's importation to Surry Co. by Gregory Rawlins in 1653 seems more credible. But why does John not show up in the records until 1683?
For now, I am basing his age on the military record. John Little found in Surry Co. VA in 1701 was listed as too old to serve, so he would have been born in 1641 or earlier (60 was upper age limit).
He immigrated on 10 Jun 1653 to Surry Co. VA.915,916 Jon. Liddel, 1653, by Gregory Rawlins, Surry Co. Virginia. Among the 10 transportees brought in by Rawlins were Jon Liddel and Adrian Poole. Rawlins received 476 acres on the S side of the James River and E side of Chipoakes Creek. He was living in 1683 in Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co. VA.917 John first showed up in the Tithables list in 1683, while William Little was in it as early as 1674. It is quite possible that John was living in Isle of Wight, since that is where the Procter family seemed to be. He was living in 1687 in Surry Co. VA.918 John Little was listed in the Militia in Surry County VA for Foot. He was living in 1695 in Surry Co. VA.919 In the 1695 list of tithables for Surry County were Jno. Little & Fra: Little. The first man listed was the head of household who was responsible for the tithe for the other men in the household age 16 and above. So generally, if the surname was the same, John would have been the father and Francis the son. He was living in 1701 in Surry Co. VA.920 John Little was listed as an old man unfit for service in Thomas Holt's Company of Foot. This would imply he is at least 60 since that was the age to be exempt. That would make him born by at least 1641. He died about Oct 1704 in Surry Co. VA.50 John Little devised his will 20 Feb., 1703/4. It was probated 7 Nov. 1704. He mentioned wife Elizabeth, son John. His estate was to be divided amonth "my children." The will was witnessed by Phillip Shelley and James Griffin.
John Little was granted 100 acres in Northampton Co.VA near Cheristone Creek on Sept. 20, 1647 for transportation of 2 persons: John Little and Eliza. Bacon.
June 10, 1653, Gregory Rawlins, son of Gregory Rawlins dec'd, was granted 476 acres in Surry Co. on S. side of James River on E. side of Chipoacks Cr. for transportation of 10 persons including Jon. Lidell and Adrian Poole. (patent Bk 3; Cavaliers & Pioneers, pg. 239)
There was also a William Little who was granted 100 acres in Northumberland Co. on S side of great Wicocomoco River, 4 June 1655 for transportation of Martin Poole and Jane Poole. Patent Book 3, pg, 345. (C&P, Bk 3, pg 308). Patent assigned 8 Dec. 1658, p. 197 (287) from Little to John Hudnall. (C&P, Bk 4, p. 372)
Sep. 28 1657, p. 163 (24)) John Gillett was granted 600 acres on S. side of Rappa. Riv. for transportation of 12 person including Thomas Liddell. (C&P, Bk 4, p 363)
Jan 29 1657, John Little from Corsham, Wiltshire, laborer was transported from Bristol to Barbados by Daniell Sam mariner
August 18 1657, John Little was transported from Bristol to Barbados by John Ballman merchant
8 Dec. 1658, William Little & John Hudnall were granted
29 Mar 1666 in Northumberland Co., 2700 acres were granted to Wm. & Peter Prestly for transportation of 54 persons. Included were Peter Prestly, Wil. Prestly and his wife, Wm. Ould, Tho. Poole, Jno Price, and Jno Little. (Cavaliers & Pioneers, p. 4, Patent Book 6).
In Oct. 1666, p. 1, Geo. Dawson & Francis Haydon were granted 1000 acres for transportation of 20 persons including Thos. Poole, Jno Price, Sarah Price, Jno Little and others. (Northumberland Co. VA, Patent Book 6, pg 1) So is this the same group of people multiple times?
Sept. 6th 1692, in Surry County, John Little was on a grand jury (Surry County, Virginia Court Records, 1691-1700, Book V, pg 46).
July 1694 (Surry Co. VA, Book V, pg 106), Jno. Little & his wife Eliza. are defendants in a suit by Edwd. Cockerill. Sept. 1694, Edward Cockerhill as marrying Eliza. Proctor did not present his account against John Little and Eliza. his wife, so were ordered to pay damage. (Book V, pg. 109).
At same time Tho. Warren and Robert Hart were on a grand jury.
March 1696/97 Wm. Coggin "having caused John Little to be arrested to this Court set forth that ye sd. Liddle did at divers times & places publish & declare that the plt. had stolne (sic) his ye. sd. defendts. Meale whereby the plaintiff alleadged he was damnified at least tenn thousand pounds of tobo. for which he prayed judgement with cost ..." The jury found for the plaintiff 5 pounds of tobacco. [PROCTOR]. John LITTLE and Elizabeth [PROCTOR] were married about 1678 in
first husband, Ambrose Procter, died in 1673. Francis Little was born about
1679. So she married John sometime in between.
John LITTLE254 was born about 1707. Just putting a child every two years. He signed a will on 20 May 1783 in Southwark Parish, Surry VA.921 Jesse Little and James Brown were executors. Wife Martha, grandson John Little, granddaughters Mary Savedge and Anne Kea were mentioned, as well as grandchildren Sarah, Samuel, Jesse, and Elizabeth Little. Daughter Sarah Brown and son-in-law James Brown were also listed. He died about Sep 1784 in Surry Co. VA.921 The will was recorded 28 Sept. 1784. I believe I have combined two John Littles here. It is highly unlikely that John lived to be 97. Parents: William LITTLE and Frances RAYNER.
Spouse: Anne WARREN. John
LITTLE and Anne WARREN were married before 1738.922 A John Little of Southwark Parish left a will dated
20 May 1783, in which he listed his wife Martha and son Jesse and several grandchildren.
It was witnessed by Samual Judkins, John Evans Judkins, and James Judkins.
John LITTLE367 was born before 1715. John was an adult when his father made his will in 1736. Parents: Robert LITTLE.
John LITTLE was born before 1738. John was listed in the Beaufort tax list of 1755 and was listed as having one slave. It seems likely he would have been at least 21 by then and likely a little older. James, the apparent next born, was listed in 1755 but not paying poll, indicating he was at least 17 and not 21. He was paying poll tax in 1762, Josiah in 1763, and George in 1764. This implies that James was 21 by 1762, Josiah turned 21 in 1762/63, and George turned 21 in 1763/64. He died in 1783 in Pitt Co. NC.923 Parents: Thomas LITTLE.
John LITTLE16 was born between 1742 and 1746 in Surry Co. VA. John (assuming it was this John and not Joseph's son) was listed with John in the 1762 Pitt Co. tax list, making him 16 to 20. He was living in 1762 in Pitt Co. NC.792 A John Little was listed adjacent to Joseph Little in the 1752 Pitt Co. tax list, which was alphabetized by first letter of surname. He was living on 27 Dec 1771 in Pitt Co. NC.924 James bought property on Coneto Creek from Peter Rives. The deed was witnessed by Jacob and John Little (who signed with his mark), and Robert Rives. John A. LITTLE354 was born about 1802.556,926 John already had children and owed his father money when Jesse Little died in 1825, so he was most likely an adult. Parents: Jesse LITTLE and Frances DINKINS.

John Bradford LITTLE405 was born on 16 May 1856 in Benton Co. TN.353,405,927 He appeared in the census in 1880 in Benton Co. TN.928 In 1880, John Little and family were listed in Benton Co. OK.927,929 He was buried on 10 Sep 1947 in Coop Prairie Cem., Mansfield AR.353,929 According to his obituary in the Fort Smith paper, John. B. was to be buried at 2:30 pm on Wednesday. He was also known as John Bennett Little. On Claud's delayed birth certificate, John B. listed himself as John Bradford Little and that is how he is listed on his death certificate. On his homestead papers he listed himself as John Bennett Little. He was Primitive Baptist. He was pastor of the Little Flock Church at Crossroads Ark for many years. Besides his extensive letters, J.B. wrote, typeset, and published a religious journal. A "biography" in the Atlas, likely written by himself states:

John Sebastian LITTLE was born on 15 Mar 1851 in Sebastian Co. AR.392,405 The article in the Sebastian Atlas only provided a year and place of birth, but the article at the Old State House provide the date and said he was named Sebastian because he was the first child born in that state.
He was elected as Congressman & Governor in 1906 in Arkansas.392,405 The Biography in the Sebastian Co. Atlas, which was likely provided by himself, states:
"LITTLE, JOHN SEBASTIAN. Born in Sebastian Co. Ark., in 1851, being the son of Jesse and Mary E. (Tatum) Little. Received his education at the common schools of Sebastian County at Cane Hill Ark. Remained on the farm until 1872, when he began teaching and the study of law. Practiced law until 1877, when he was elected Prosecuting Attorney of the 12th Judicial District, which office he held until 1884. He was then elected a member of the Legislature, where he served with distinction to himself and his constituents. He was next elected as Circuit Judge and served one term, after which he was elected to Congress, where he is now serving his fourth term and has been nominated and elected for a fifth term. In 1877 he married Miss Irwin and the children of this marriage are Jesse, Paul and Monte. In every part of Mr. Little's career he has shown all the traits of character, honesty, industry, forcefulness and freedom from sham which mark the man who succeeds in public or private life."
In 1906 he successfully ran for governor of Arkansas, but suffered a nervous breakdown 2 days after taking office on January 14, 1907. For about a month his son and wife ran the office of governor. Joseph LITTLE was born on 16 Jan 1727/28 in Plymouth Massachusetts.257 He was not in father's will. Parents: Isaac LITTLE and Sarah CHURCH.
Joseph LITTLE16 was born between 1741 and 1746 in Surry Co. VA. Basing age on William being born in 1745 - per Alice Smith, a great granddaughter of William. Joseph was listed in the 1762 list as an adult; thus he would have been born no later than 1741. John was listed with him; could have been his son or his younger brother. I am guessing that it was the younger brother. He was living in 1762 in Pitt Co. NC.792 Joseph was listed in the 1762 and 1763 tax lists for Pitt Co. NC. He also paid for John, making John 16 to 20 years old. That would make John born 1743 to 1747. If you assume John is Joseph's son, which is likely, and that Joseph was at least 20 when John was born, Joseph would have been born by 1727 and likely earlier. He died in 1799.16 The Thigpen Tribe says Joseph had 5 sons and 5 daughters according to recorded records (which they do not reference). Parents: William LITTLE and Morning (LITTLE).
Joseph Daniel LITTLE was born on 13 Dec 1869 in Camden, Benton Co. TN.131,941 He died on 2 Jun 1954 in Hot Springs AR.833 Joe D. lived his last years with son Homer in Hot Springs. Joseph H. LITTLE was born about 1905.456 Joseph was listed as 5 in the 1910 census. Parents: Frank (James) LITTLE and Dorcas TRAYWICK.
Joseph J. LITTLE was born between 1816 and 1824. See note for Amariah He was living on 1 Jan 1854 in Sumter Co. AL.373 Parents: Noe (Noah) LITTLE and Mary EDMONDSON.
Joseph Knox (not proven) LITTLE was born about 1826 in NC.781 He was 34 in the 1860 census. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Union Co. NC.943 Joseph Little, age 24, was listed on page 92. With him were Jennet, 27, and Green D., 1. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Union Co. NC.944 Joseph K? Little was listed at Olive Branch PO as 34, Jannet 37, Green D 11, Mary A. 9, jfrances E 7, Sophrona E 3, Fetney J 1. Nearby in household 620 was Hartsville Dees and at household 632 was Elizabeth Dees, age 74. He served in the military on 25 Oct 1864 in Camp Stokes, NC; Co. F. 37th Reg..10 He died before 1870. It is likely that Joseph died before 1870, as Jennet is listed in the 1870 census and Joseph is not. According to Annie Lee Traywick, George W. Little was one of the administrators of Joseph's estate in the 1870s. It is unclear where this Joseph Little fits in the family. He is likely the Joseph Little who married Jane Dees in 1847. In 1844 a Jos. Little was bondsman for the marriage of Gastin Jackson and Lotty Maness. In 1850, Joseph lived very near the families of Hosea (dec'd), Isaac (dec'd), Patrick (dec'd), and Menon Little. Oct. 24, 1853, a Joseph Little witnessed a deed from Dugal W. Ross and one from Cally Ross to Sheperd Edwards.
It seems possible that Joseph is the elder son of Patrick Little and Isabella Medlin? While there is no mention of him in Patrick's estate papers, the 1840 census lists 6 young males, the oldest of whom was 15 to 20. This could be Joseph. The estate papers probably just listed the minor children, thus explaining the absence of his name.
Annie has him listed as Joseph Knox Little. The Marriage License list has Joseph A. Little, but likely the transcriber read the K as an A. Parents: Patrick LITTLE and Isabel MEDLIN.
Spouse: Jannet DEES. Joseph Knox (not proven) LITTLE and Jannet DEES were married on 8 Nov 1847 in Union Co. NC.342 Wm. Sinclair was the bondsman. Jesse Little was bondsman for William Sinclair's marriage to Margaret Little. Children were: Green D. LITTLE, Mary A. LITTLE, Frances E. Josephine LITTLE was born in 1833.16 Parents: Louis Gray LITTLE and Elizabeth (LITTLE).
Josiah LITTLE was born about 1743.792 James, Josiah, and George Little were all listed with Thomas in the 1763 tax list, indicating they were born between 1743 and 1747. In 1764, Josiah was listed as head of household, while the other two were listed with him. Thus, Josiah must have been 21 by the time the tax was taken, which would make him born abt 1743. He appeared in the census in 1790 in Pitt Co. NC.793 George, James, and Josiah were listed in that order within the first 50 names in Pitt Co. William Little was listed 5 names away. William Hodges and Edmond Hodges were neighbors, as well as Christopher Crandol - names interspersed with these Little families. Parents: Thomas LITTLE.
