Frank Little pointed out his father (standing in front of Frank's grandfather) in a picture that was also published in the Lexington Times. Estelle LITTLE.770 I thought Randy and others referred to Estelle as McPhee, but the article in the Times has Estelle McPeake and this is surely the person to whom they referred. Estelle had a picture of Dugal Ross and his wife which passed to Frank Little, as executor of her estate. Frank gave Irma the picture while we were visiting and Irma gave it to me. Etheldred (Dred) LITTLE16 was born between 1766 and 1774 in North Carolina.772,773 In both 1800 and 1810 censuses, Etheldred was 26-44, so he would have probably been born 1766 to 1774. He appeared in the census in 1800 in Greenville, Pitt Co. NC.773 In this census, Etheldred was 26-44 with one female 16-25 and one under 10. There was one slave listed. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Pitt Co. NC.774 Etheldred was listed as 26-44, with one male 16-25, 10-15, and under 10. There was one female 26-44, three 16-25, one 10-15, and one under 10. There was also one slave.
This census does not correlate with the 1800 census where there was only one female and no male children. The ages for Etheldred and his wife and the fact that they have a slave are consistent. Perhaps the one female 10-15 and the ones under 10 are their children and the others are boarders or workers.
He appeared in the census in 1820 in Pitt Co. NC.775 Dread was listd as 45+ with 1 male 16-26, 1 male 6-18, two females 16-26, 1 female 10-16, 1 female less than 10, and 2 male slaves under 14 and one to 45. He died about 1846 in Pitt Co. NC.776 According to Roger Kammerer, Powers of Attorney in Pitt Co. listed the children of Etheldred Little as living in Hall Co. GA. Children listed included Thomas Little, Lydia Little (m. James M. Stiles), Nancy Little of Hall Co. Another son: Grey Little Jackson Co., Ga. I am guessing that the Power of Attorneys had to do with his estate.
Also, from a listing by Allen Churchill, "Pitt Co. Deed Book MM, p. 42, 1848 mentions James Styles and wife, Lydia Little, Nancy Little, Thomas Little of Hall Co, Ga. They are children of Etheldred Little of Pitt Co NC."
It looks very unlikely that Etheldred is the son of Nahum, as Nahum appears to be too young to be Etheldred's father.
Per Allen Churchill posting to Genforum, Pitt Co N C DB MM, p. 42, 1848 mentions James Styles and wife, Lydia Little, Nancy Little, Thomas Little of Hall Co, Ga. They are children of Etheldred Little of Pitt Co N C. Also found another listing from Roger Kammerer that said the same thing. OneWorldTree on Ancestry lists Thomas Napoleon Little with wife Lavinia Averhart and sons Nicholas Cannon Little, William Grey Little, Jacob E. Little, and David Little, all born in Hall GA except Jacob who was born in Macon. Andy Little, whose DNA apparently matches ours, is a descendant of this line and says Thomas was born in 1810 near Franklin NC.

According to the records of Estates of Edgecombe Co. the widow Elizabeth petioned in Nov 1816 for provisions and dower, saying he died intestate Oct 1, 1816. He had 150 A on east side of Tar River adj Jonas Lewis dec'd, Joshua Sharp, Noah Little and David Barnes. He left heirs William, James, Elizabeth wife of Thomas C. Conner, Sarah/Sally, and Exum. Noah was guardian of Sarah and Exum. Thomas Conner was admin. James Little was also a minor. Parents: William LITTLE and Elizabeth THIGPEN\LAROCHE?.

If he had been 21, he would have been responsible for his own tithe, according to Everything you wanted to know about Tithables at http://www.genfiles.com/legal/Tithables.htm. He died in 1750 in Southwark Parish, Surry VA.785 Will dated 14 Aug 1745. Rec 20 Nov 1750. Francis Little Executor. Sons: Robert, Francis, Boaz. Wife not named. Dau Sarah Jones, wife of Philip. Witnesses John Ruffin, William Seward Jr, James Wilson Jr. Leaves Plantation where Robert lives to Robert, "plantation where I now dwell and all Land lying on south west side of the small branch dividing him and Robert" to son Francis. Witnessed by Richard Scammell and James Taylor. All children based on this will. It is not proven that Francis is a son of any John Little. In the 1695 tithables list, John and Francis are listed, with William not far away. In the 1702 tithables list, Jno. Little, ffra: Little & Robt. Little were listed together in Lawne's Creek parish. Wm. Little was listed with Nicho. Smith on same page. I interpret Jno. Little being listed first as Jno was head of household, but am not certain I am correct. Even if that is so, it is certainly not proof that Jno is Francis and Robert's father. Parents: John LITTLE and Elizabeth [PROCTOR].
