David Alexander LITTLE and Sally FLETCHER were married on 24 Dec 1900.52 David Durant LITTLE was born in Apr 1876 in North Carolina.552,729,734 David was 24, born Aug 1876, and the only child at home in the 1900 census. In the 1880 census, D.D. was age 4. D. Durant Little is 53 in the 1930 census and is listed in Olin, Iredell Co. NC. Durant Little of Olin was listed as J.P.'s brother in J.P. Little's obituary. Parents: Pleasant M. LITTLE and Catherine M KIKER. Spouse: . David Durant LITTLE and Mary appeared in the census in 1920 in Statesville, Iredell Co. NC.735 David (42) and Mary (37) were listed with children Pleasant (16), Clarence (14), Harvey (12), John (9), Bruce (7), and David (1 4/12). Ancestry transcription lists Clement instead of Pleasant, but I am sure it says Pleasant. David Liles LITTLE was born on 8 Jan 1836 in Anson Co. NC.736 The biography of J.B. Little in the Sebastian County Atlas said David L. Little was born Jan. 8, 1835. [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: moved]737 David was about 7 years old when his family moved to Benton Co. We believe, based on land records, that he lived there until after the war. In 1870, he and his family were listed in Williamson Co. IL. He was Baptist in Oct 1858 in Carroll Co. TN.738 Saturday before the 4th Sunday in Jan 1860 the church met.... Invited visiting bethren to seats with us whereupon brother D. L. Little came forward... He lived Makanda IL in Makanda, Williamson Co. IL before Jul 1870.633 He lived Sardis TN in Sardis, Henderson Co. TN after 1874.602 A family story as to why the Littles moved to Henderson County concerns David's killing a man who burned his gin in Benton County. It is borne out by early records of Hollow Rock Primitive Church (Benton CO) which stated that in April 1863 D.L. Little was excluded from the church "for misbehavior" for shooting Thomas Presson. Family stories say this was Angeline's brother. However her brother Thomas was living in 1880 (Ervin) and although the church records do not say the man died, another Thomas Presson, son of William, died in 1863 (Ervin). The date 1863 would seem to fit their move to Illinois more than to Henderson Co. if, in fact, they left because of the deed. They settled in Henderson Co, TN in 1874 (from Elizabeth's obituary -- Little Legend APPENDIX). He was elected as Justice of the Peace on 4 Dec 1876 in Henderson Co. TN.739 I don't know that he was elected, but he was listed as JP at this date. 4 December 1876 - Henderson Co., TN - James P. Odell and W. N. Arnold, both residents of Henderson County, appeared before D. L. Little, Justice of the Pea He appointed guardian on 2 Feb 1880 in Henderson Co. TN.740 D.L. Little was appointed guardian of Mark Mooney, a lunatic, in County Court February 2, 1880. Guardians Bond of $300 was posted by D.L. Little, Isaac Davis, and W.J. Thompson, W.J. Shepherd. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Henderson Co. TN.480 Davy L. Little was listed as 44, Nurseryman; self, father, and mother born NC. With him were Elizabeth 40, wife, Housekeeper, b TN, father VA, mother Tenn; Robert 16, son, born Tenn; Charly P. 6, son, born Tenn.; Mary L. 7, daughter, born Tenn; William S. 1, son, born Tenn; Sarah Haney 16, servant, born Tenn, father NC, mother Tenn; Silverton McPratt?, 24, boarder, clerk, self & parents b Tenn; Mary Austin, 59, boarder, housekeeper, self & parents b Tenn; David Kelly, 23, boarder, merchant (no place of birth listed). Davy's place of birth originally said Tenn and was crossed out and NC written in. His two oldest sons had Tenn listed as place of birth of father. On 22 Apr 1890 he was Post Master in Sardis, Henderson Co. TN.741 He visited family and friends in 1894 in Union Co. NC.742 In a letter to his son J.B. Little, dated 10 Decr. 1894, David mentioned the resemplance in J.B.'s Associational Minuets. "From what I see your Association is or would be about in line with that of Dear old Uncle David N. Liles in North Carolina. I went with him and Dear old Aunt Jane to their meeting tehre appeared to be a rather strong membership and their meeting was a pleasant one. These dear old kindred gave me their latest and best Photographs and requested me as I was somewhat poetic to draw - as sort of pen picture as I saw them so near their departure..." David said "Altogether my N.C. visit was a very pleasant one not only the most aged but all our kindred and many many friends give evidence of a most hearty welcome. Could you not find time and inclination to write them direct to David N. Liles & others Negrohead Union Co. N.C. These old people may not be able to answer in their own hand but like my mother would want others to. Could you not help me in selling our N.C. June Pear. we will have a fine lot of 2 yr trees next fall. If you could see the Parent Tree and hear the oldest people tell of its wonderfull crops of fine fruity you certainly would love to sell them." Does this mean he got the trees from Negrohead? And was it two years earlier or did he just buy trees of that age? He died on 24 Nov 1906 in Sardis, Henderson Co. TN.743,744 He was buried in Sardis Cemetary, Henderson Co. TN.743 David is buried in a grave north-south, at Sardis Cemetary. He expressed a wish to be buried crossways, for he said he "had lived crossways the world." A different version of the burial deals with the North-South conflict. Wayne Little told that Jacob had made a pact with an old friend, Mr. Parker in Benton Co. TN, that each was to be buried with his head to the south, his feet to the north so, on Judgment Day, he could kick the behinds of the northern soldiers as they went back home. The family felt the reason he felt "crossways the world" was that he wanted to start a college in Sardis and the people would not cooperate. However there was a college in Sardis in 1884 to 1910. His reference number is J2. Family stories depict David as a gentle and generous but temperamental man. His character shows too in his writings. When he caught some neighbor boys in his Ben Davis apple tree, he looked up and said, "Eat a little, and save a little, for David Little." Grandchildren tell the story of the day David, riding his horse Roscoe, rushed to the train station in Lexington to tie a poem on each bundle of apple trees being shipped west: Such trees as these will surely please The people of the West; For Little knows, and surely grows The very, very best. Mary Presson Douglas found in her grandmother's trunk a small notebook filled with David's poems. This on the first two pages: This little Book Where in you look The little children may With parents too Find something new Peculiar in its way Dear kindred friend To whom we send Imperfect composition Should others see Please say for me Cornfield my education And yet no man In all the land Love learning more than he The student friend who loves to send A rhyme in a b c. - The Little Legend, p 57 Parents: Jacob LITTLE Jr and Frances LILES. LITTLE died before 21 Dec 1859.751,752 John Little left part of his estate to Edmund Little, son of his deceased brother E.P. Little. It would appear that E.P. and the elder Edmund are the same man. In addition, Union Co. Deed books records the partition of lands "between and among the heirs of Edmund Lytle and Hosea P. Lyttle deceased ..that is to say the lot appropriated to Edmund Lytles heirs is boundedviz Beginning at a stake on the north side of Lanes Creek by a water oak and holly tree in a line of the dower ....with John Marshs line...containing one hundred and fifty acres.." Elbert told that he was confused, too, by his mother being "as big a rebel as you ever saw." And since "she talked and my father wouldn't talk, I am about 10/9ths southerner, you might say." Parents: Miles Washington LITTLE and Elizabeth Ann COLE. Spouse: Josephine CONNER. Elbert Luther LITTLE and Josephine CONNER were married.131 No date is provided in the bible and they are listed as Elbert L. Little and Josie Conner. Children were: Living, Living. Eldred LITTLE.666 Parents: William Frank LITTLE and Martha Ellen "Marthy" ROSS. Elisha LITTLE676 was born before 1767. Assuming he was at least 20 when he witnessed a deed, along with William Moring, in 1787, he would have been born before 1767. He could have been as young as 16 or much older. The Thigpen Tribe lists Elisha and Pleasant as children of Isaac, along with Penelope, Isaac, Michael, William Gray, and James. They provide no sources for their listing. Pleasant Little deeded Elisha "brother" land in Anson Co. in 1831, and Elisha was executor of Pleasant's will. There is a younger (40-50) Elisha in Anson Co. in 1840. This younger Elisha is likely the author of the unmailed letter (found in the Heritage Room in Monroe, NC) that mentions his uncles Jacob and Isa (on Lanes Creek). Parents: Isaac LITTLE Sr. and PLEASANT. Elisha LITTLE was born between 1800 and 1805 in North Carolina.755 Descendant David Law says Elisha was born abt 1800, and the Elisha Little in the 1850 Union Co. census was listed as 45 (b 1805). In 1860, an Elisha Little was listed as 60 (b 1800). The 1840 census listed an Elisha Little age 40-50 (b 1790-1800). He appeared in the census between 1840 and 1860 in Anson Co. NC.756,757 In 1830, Elisha Little was not listed in the census. In 1840, Elisha Little was listed in Anson Co. age 40-50. He had one male 15-20 and one 5-10, two daughters under 5 and a female 30-40. In 1850, Elisha Little was listed in Sandys Point, Anson Co. with wife Martha and children John (age 21), James (age 17), Lucy (15), Harriet (12), Mima (10), Judith (8), Roxy (6), Edmund W. (3), and William (5). In 1860, Elisha Little, age 60, is listed in Wadesboro, Anson Co. with wife Elizabeth, age 58, and Ellen (age 22), Hannah (age 20), Harriet (age 18), William (age 15), and Mary Boggan, age 79. He died before Apr 1884.406 David Law descends from an Elisha Little, b abt 1800,, who married Martha Tyson, b according to David, in Pitt Co. According to David Law, Elisha and Martha had 10 children and William (his line) was the 6th. I don't know if this is the same person that was apparently a son of Pleasant Little or not, but it seems likely since the ages are very close and he is in the vicinity. Parents: Pleasant LITTLE and Rachel KNOX?. Spouse: Martha TYSON. Elisha LITTLE and Martha TYSON were married.22 Census data (1850) also provides the name of Martha. Children were: John LITTLE, James LITTLE, Lucy LITTLE, Harriet LITTLE, Mima LITTLE, Judith LITTLE, Roxy LITTLE, Edmund W. LITTLE, William LITTLE. Elisha LITTLE was born between 1813 and 1816. In 1837, Elisha was not listed with infants Joseph and Mariah as being in guardianship of Gray Little. He could have had someone else as guardian, but was probably 21 by then. In 1836, he was still a minor. So he was likely born between 1815 and 1816. He was living on 14 Oct 1837 in Sumter Co. AL.758 Elisha D. Little of Sumter Co. AL sold land to William Little of Edgecombe Co. He died before 1854 in Sumter Co. AL.373,759 Elisha had died without leaving lawful issue by the time his brother's estate was settled in 1854 (according to Kinfolk of Edgecombe County). However, there is an Elisha D. Little listed in the Washington Co. TX census for 1850 who was born in NC abt 1817. He was listed with a female L.R. Little age 28, b AL; and children Mary E. (6), Nancy A. (4), and W.T. (male, 1 month). Parents: Noe (Noah) LITTLE and Mary EDMONDSON. Eliza LITTLE was born in 1839. Parents: George LITTLE and Sary HINSON. Spouse: William Monroe MEDLIN. Not mentioned in father's will; he lists his second daughter Katherine and third daughter Patience only. Thigpen had Elizabeth born in 1681, which of course is not possible if William was born in 1682 as tithing records indicate. Parents: William LITTLE and Frances RAYNER. Spouse: William SCOTT. William SCOTT and Elizabeth LITTLE were married.354 Elizabeth LITTLE367 was born before 1720. Elizabeth was married when her father made his will. Likely she was considerably older than 16, but I am using that as the minimum. Parents: Robert LITTLE. Spouse: Joseph OAKS. Joseph OAKS and Elizabeth LITTLE were married.367 Children were: Sarah OAKS. Elizabeth LITTLE138 was born about 1764 in NC.761 Parents: Abraham LITTLE and Celia (LITTLE). Spouse: GARDNER. Her father's will leaves property or money to Elizabeth Jay's children. Parents: William LITTLE and Mary Ann JOHNSON. Spouse: JAY. JAY and Elizabeth LITTLE were married before 11 Jan 1837.137 Elizabeth LITTLE was born in 1791.647 She died before Nov 1824.527 Elizabeth was deceased by the time Sylvia petitioned for dower in Nov. 1824. In that petition it listed Lydia Price and her natural guardian Elijah Price. Parents: Gray LITTLE and Sylvia Peniah Ann THIGPEN. Spouse:
Elijah PRICE. Elijah PRICE and Elizabeth
LITTLE were married on 22 Dec 1810 in Edgecombe Co. NC.701,762 Assume
that Elijah Price who married Elizabeth Little is this Elijah based on Gray
Little's will leaving Lydia Price, a minor with her natural guardian Elijah Price.
Elizabeth Ann Wright, in Manning and Allied Families, has the marriage taking
place in Johnston Co. NC.
Elizabeth LITTLE was born about 1796.68 Parents: James LITTLE and Rosanna TUCKER. Elizabeth LITTLE was born before 1800. I am guessing she was at least 16 when she was married. Parents: Exum LITTLE and Elizabeth THIGPEN. Spouse: Thomas CONNOR. Thomas CONNOR and Elizabeth LITTLE were married before 1 Oct 1816.246,315 She was already married to Thomas Connor when her father died 1 Oct. 1816.
