Eli Warren LEWIS was born on 18 Jul 1821 in Iredell Co. NC.594 He was living about 1849 in Harris Grove, KY.594 After their marriage, Warren and Nancy "settled on a farm in the vicinity of the other Taylors, on East Fork of Clarks River near Harris Grove and Five Points....By 1847 Warren had acquired a half section of land though tax records show that the amount of his land varied from time to time. Grandchildren remember the home place as a big house with a kitchen separated from the house proper. A row of cedar trees lined the road which led to the house. Lala Dowdy now [1985] ha a cedar chest made from these trees. She has another chest which came with the Taylors from North Carolina. Lala has, also, the rocking chair in which Warren spent the last few weeks of his life." He signed a will on 16 Jun 1883 in Calloway Co. Ephraim LEWIS595 was born about 1790 in NC.370 He died between 1841 and 1848 in Iredell Co. NC.596 No record of Ephraim's death found. A note in the GSIC files states Ephraim was still in Iredell Co. in 1841 and a letter from Rosa and Elizabeth in July 1848 implies he had died.
Ephraim, by 1840 at least, must have been deaf and dumb. In the 1840 census, the column indicating "a male 25 years and upward is deaf and dumb was checked. There had long been a story in our family that "some ancestor" was deaf and dumb. It, then, was Ephraim. This handicap of Ephaim's may account for the few records we find of his activity in the community when his father Daniel's name was mentioned often." Parents: Daniel LEWIS and Elizabeth BELT.

Granville Ephraim LEWIS was born on 7 Apr 1827 in Iredell Co. NC. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Sebastian Co. AR.358 A family story is that Granville moved to IL and AR with John while Warren remained in KY. While John is not found in the 1870 census, Granville is found in Sebastian Co. AR. There are two listings, possibly for the same family. In one Ephram is listed as 40, b NC; wife Mary J., 26, b TN; children Rosanna, 5, b TN; William F., 3, b TN.

"He is in Mexico Very Cruze -- he has never bin in a batel sence he has bin there."
-pg 36, Daniel Lewis, by Irma Boyer.

He died on 11 Nov 1890.601,602 The Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of F. & A. Masons lists the death of J.W. Lewis, a member of the Reid Lodge in Mansfield, on November 11, 1890. Irma Boyer says J.W. Lewis was a member of the Masons. Thus it is likely this is the correct date. The headstone at his burial site says 1889, but Feb. 7, 1890, Johnw W. deeded land to the M.E. Church South; this was the same parcel he and Rachel deeded to the Methodist Episcopal Church Sept. 1884. Apparently, the deed needed to be re-recorded because of the split in the Methodist Church.
