He was born in NC.477 All the Haney children were born in TN and both parents were listed as born NC. In the 1830 Anson NC census, there was a Hezekiah Haney, age 50-60, with another male 20-30. Next door was Hardy Haney, age 20-30. There were several Preslar families (this same family Keziah Ross married into?). David Liles, Joel Liles, and Henry Liles were on the same page.
6 June 1855 Dugal W. Ross deeded 5 acres to John H? Hodgin in Henderson Co. TN. The deed was witnessed by Hardy Haney and Cally Ross.
In 1880, Dugal's son Joseph F. Ross had a Rosa A. Haney, age 13, listed with him as as AD (Adopted Daughter?). A Sarah Haney, age 17, was listed as a servant in the home of Davy L. Little (father of Dugal's son-in-law John B. Little).

Rosa (unproven) HANEY was born about 1865 in Tennessee.478 Placing Rosa as a child of Penelope is a pure guess. In the 1880 census, Rosa A. Haney, age 15, was living with Joseph F. Ross, and listed as adopted. Rosa's father is listed as born NC and mother Tenn, just like Sarah Haney who was listed with Davy Little. This actually works against them being daughters of Penelope, as Penelope was born in NC.
Since there seems to be a good chance that Penelope had older children who were farmed out, it seems possible Rosa is one of them. The only evidence of the older children is the listing in the family bible of two Haney children.

Sarah Katherine (unproven) HANEY was born on 9 Nov 1864 in Henderson Co. TN.479,480 There is no direct evidence that Sarah Katherine Haney is a daughter of Penelope. She is listed in the family bible, along with Thomas Cary Haney, but no note is made of their parents.
In the 1880 census, a Rosa Haney, age 15, was living with Joseph F. Ross, and listed as adopted. Sarah Haney, 16, was listed with the Davy Little family as a servant. The listing said she was born in Tenn, her father in NC, and her mother in Tenn. Penelppe was born in NC, so this is a conflict. Parents: ? HANEY and Penelope Ann ROSS.
Shirley Ruth HANEY was born on 6 Feb 1936. She died on 12 Nov 1937. Parents: Olin F HANEY and Living.
Thomas Cary (unproven) HANEY was born on 4 Mar 1861 in Henderson Co. TN.479 Thomas Cary Haney (1861) and Sarah Katherine Haney (1864) were listed on the Marriages page of the bible, just below Charly Tyndale Ross (1863). There is no evidence they are children of Penelope Ross, but that seems to be the logical conclusion. However, there is 10 years difference between Sarah Katherine and the first child listed in the 1880 census with Penelope Haney, so this may be a bad conclusion.

Elijah Coburn and Ebenezer Ross sold a slave woman Jude and her child Selah
in 1805 to Azariah Coburn. Charles Harrington left a slave woman Jude and her
issue to his daughters upon the death or remarriage of their mother if she did
not have more than one child per daughter. If she had more children than one
apiece, the slaves were to be divided between all his children.
In 1807, Elijah Coburn, Ebenezer Ross, and John Harrington sold property where
Charles Harrington formerly lived to Thomas Vann.
Elijah Coburn and his wife apparently had sons named Charles (named for her father?)
and Whitmel (named for her brother?). Children were: Harmon COBURN, Charles COBURN,
Whitmel COBURN.
