Adaptation to 175W Workload

This chart shows heart rate at 175W after 5 months of training at loads from 175W to 330W. Each session began with a five minute warm up, gradually increasing the workload until the target wattage was reached. Then the target wattage was maintained, plus or minus five watts, for thirty minutes, followed by a five minute warm dawn at seventy watts. Note how after training the heart rate response to a submaximal work load is no longer climbing but nearly flat, similar to the response to watching television or reading.
