The beginnings of the Greater Houston Baring Witness

A preliminary organizing meeting was held to establish a Houston chapter of Baring Witness on Thursday night, February 13, 2003 at Valhalla's graduate student pub on the Rice University campus.
Baring Witness has quickly become an international movement. Activists in all regions of the United States, as well as in Europe, Canada, Australia, and South Africa, have been photographed spelling out messages of peace with their bare bodies.
The movement began last year in Northern California with a group called Unreasonable Women Baring Witness. Most of the photographs since then have featured exclusively women, but several all male and mixed-gender photos have shown up on the Internet in recent weeks.
Local meeting organizers collaborated with members of Club 13 from Baker College that night for an impromtu action in support of peace in the middle east.
Rice University's Club 13, is an informal group of students and others who tour the campus wearing only shaving cream on the 13th of each academic month.
