FRANKLIN HARLEE CANUP, JR (EM2/Navy) CONCORD, NC. was killed in Vietnam on the first day he arrived there, Jan. 14, 1967 (details) EM2 Franklin H. Canup Jr. was one of four crew members assigned to Mine Squadron 11, Detachment ALFA. On January 14, 1967, Canup and his crew departed onboard their vessel, MSB-14 to sweep the channel near Long Tau in southern Gia Dinh Province in the Delta region of South Vietnam. That same day, during the early morning hours (0620), MSB-14 was rammed and  immediately sunk by the Norwegian merchant ship, the MUI FINN, at the mouth of the Long Tau River.

CPT Kenneth Canup, IN Commanded the 134TH AVIATION COMPANY (ASSAULT HELICOPTER) in 1971 in Vietnam. (known as the Demons and Devils) The 134th’s home was Tuy Hoa. (Hell's Half Acre)

Carl R. Cannop, Retired Lt.Col.(USAF) Ruidoso, NM., was born in Gainesville, Ga. in 1915.  Flew 65 missions as pilot of B-26 during WWII.

On the evening of 2 April 1945 the USS Henrico was conducting night retirement from Kerama Retto as a component of Task Group 53.4. At 1838 Zone Time in Approximate position 25 degrees 59' N and 127 degrees 17' E, course 135 degrees true, speed 8 knots (38RPM) an enemy twin-engine bomber "FRANCES" approached from out of a cloud cover and made a suicide crash on the ship, striking the starboard side of the bridge deck at frame 96. Gunnery Mate 3rd Class Jesse Russell Canup is listed as wounded in this attack.

Robert H. Canupp an E4 from Duval, Florida, is listed as an MIA (presumed dead) in the Korean War.  He was stationed with unit HQ, CO 38th Infantry when it was over run by the Chinese on 11/30/50.  He was declared dead on 12/31/53. Age 32, Service Number 14352873, Branch: U.S. Army, Death Record 501130, son of Walter Canupp and Minnie Ivey.

Robert E. Canup (Salisbury, NC) is a retired physicist holding 39 separate patents for Texaco and Schlumburger. His inventions of the "potentiometer dip meter" and the "electronic ignition system" helped revolutionize the oil field and automotive industries in the 1950's and 60's. Now he is concentrating on genealogical work.

Dr. C. Neal Canup, MD is President of the Alabama Medical Society. C. Neal Jr. received the 1998 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in Religion from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Robin M. Canup-Mihran Ph.D. in Astro-Physics University of Colorado. Is the Director of the Southwest Research Institute.  Recently interviewed on TV's Discovery Channel and on National Public Radio, she is working on a NASA project (COLLIDE) The Collisions Into Dust Experiment which is under construction for flight in a Space Shuttle. She has been featured in Time, Nature, Discover, and other magazines regarding her work on determining the origin of our moon. Some of her work relates to "Evolution of the G Ring and the Ring Hazard to Cassini". Robin has collaborated with James P. Dilley, Ph.D., Syracuse University on Theoretical High Energy Physics. She has papers published including, "Size Distribution of Satellite Dust Ejecta : Effects of Radiation Pressure and Planetary Oblateness," (Icarus, 105:363369, 1993). She presented the first numerical calculations of accretion in an impact-generated protolunar disk (Canup and Esposito 1996, Icarus 119). She has been published in the International Journal of Solar System Studies (Evolution of the G Ring and the Population of Macroscopic Ring Particles) She was interviewed by NBC for the "Asteroid" miniseries (some even say one of the charectors was based on her). She is on a NASA committee deciding the direction of several projects.  She was also a dancer and the Prima Ballerina for the Boulder Ballet,  dancing the Nutcracker in December for many years. Additionally, she is past president (1990) of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority at Duke University. In another lifetime she doubled as The Easter Bunny...

Dr. John L. Canup, [photo] who passed away Feb 19, 2995, was an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. (Ph.D., University of North Carolina, 1986) colonial America, intellectual. He wrote "The Cry of Sodom Enquired Into: Bestiality and the Wilderness of Human Nature in Seventeenth Century New England", Publisher: American Antiquarian (1988) ISBN: 0-944026-06-0 Price: Unknown. Also "Out of the Wilderness, The Emergence of an American Identity in Colonial New England" Wesleyan University Press/University Press of New England [1990] 0-8195-5522-7 Cloth in US: $35.00.

Dr. Patrick W. Canupp (Ph.D., Stanford University in Aeronautics and Astronautics 1997) Investigated the turbulence closure problem for Mars Mission Research Center while working in the Theoretical Flow Physics Branch. He modified the existing code which solves the Navier-Stokes equations using a Reynolds stress turbulence model. Some of the experimental data were curve fitted using a least squares analysis; these curves are now being incorporated into the model. Results from the revised model are intended to be compared to other models and to experimental data. He is now an Assistant Professor at Gardner-Webb University. Dr. Canupp, assistant professor of mathematics, comes to GWU from Stanford University, and was labeled the best student in Stanford's aeronautics and  astronautics Ph.D. program. Canupp lists watching tornado videos and growing carnivorous plants as hobbies.  He is now the Chief Aerodynamicist for Joe Gibbs Racing

Dr. K. C. Canupp is noted in spinal cord injury research - Preservation of renal function following spinal cord injury [Abstract]. Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 75, 719. The Doctor spoke at the Houston Astrodome Hotel in March 1997 on Effect of Oral Ciprofloxacin on Bacterial Flora of Perineal Skin and Lower Urinary Tract in Persons With Spinal Cord Injury. The National SCI Statistical Center. Facts and figures at a glance [Information sheet]. Birmingham, AL. Also in the Bibliography of Extramural Research Grants; Norfloxacin treatment of nosocomial urinary tract infection in patients undergoing intermittent catheterization following spinal cord injury. Curr Ther Res 1990 (September);48(3):503. K.C. is also noted regarding "in vitro" susceptibilities of mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas to new macrolides and aryl-fluoroquinolones. Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 1988; 32:1500-2. (IDIS 246901) He is a key speaker for the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA).

Dr. C.R. (Buzz) Canup, (Clemson) is President, Site Selection Services AngelouEconomics. Dr. Canup served as a principal within the Fluor Daniel Consulting Company, a major engineering, construction, and diversified services firm with operations and offices located throughout the world. Fluor Daniel performs a wide variety of services, including but not limited to site location, strategic business planning, project implementation, technical support services, management consulting, and related activities on a global basis. During the past 29 years, Dr. Canup has been involved in industrial and economic development, marketing, personnel administration, human resource development, management consulting, and college administration. His responsibilities have included strategic planning, R&D, financial planning and analysis, business and organizational development, and management and consulting services for both domestic and international operations. He is also vice president of recruitment with Enterprise Florida.

Robert E. Canup II, an author for Dr. Dobbs Journal and a systems level Design Engineer, works at the JSC NASA facility working on the International Space Station.  He is also a contributing programmer to the Linux Operating System for PCs. He served in USARV/Depot Long Binh/Company C from '69-'71.

With the 2008 Olympics, perhaps Ross Canup will be America's hope. He was  ranked 5^th nationally in the 1500 meter freestyle swimming, men's under 14 years of age. He finished 12th in the 1500 in the 1996 WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS with splits of Splits: 32.86 & 35.88 also finishing 27th in the 50 meter, 23rd in the 100 meter, 14th in the 200 meter, 11th in the 400 meter. SPEEDO 1997 WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS saw him place 14^th in the backstroke and freestyle 50 meter. In the Boys Over 15 division (competing against boys up to 21 years old) at the SUNTAN CLASSIC 05/01/98 - 05/03/98, he placed 2nd in the 400 IM, 1st in the 200 IM (2:33.16),   8th in the 100 Fly, 1st in the 200 Breast (2:55.69), 1st in the 400 Free (4:53.20),  7th in the 100 Free, 3rd in the 200 Back, 2nd in the 100 Breast, 3rd in the 200 Free. In July he placed 1st in the Men's 400 Free (4:44.59)!  In 2000, Ross took up NCCA Cycling competitions competing for the USAF.

Bonnie Canup, 16, of Longmeadow, Mass. is an ice skater with her mother at her side eight hours a day, six days a week, trains as a pupil of Oksana Baiul's coach, Galina Zmievskaya. "We are lucky to have Galina for a teacher," said Olympic hopeful Bonnie. Her parents are putting in up to $40,000 a year on her lessons. She has become pals with Olympic Gold Medalists Oksana and Viktor Petrenko. She just placed 8th in the NOVICE LADIES - GROUP B 1997 SOUTHWEST PACIFIC REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS held November 3-8, 1996 in San Diego, California. She is skating for the "Rim of the World" Figure Skating Club.

Alex Canup also has Olympic potential.  He is the #1 tennis player on the Graham HS Red Devils tennis team in North Carolina.

Justin H. Canup placed 30th in the "Wrath of the Boneyard VIII" race held by USA Cycling in Meridian CT March, 1997 and 12^th in the Men 19 to 24 Class O, Southern California Rim Nordic Mt. Bike Series Points Standings Summer 1997.
