The family moved to Abilene in 1952 and Don managed Childs Ready Mix Concrete Co. in Abilene, Texas until 1967. They then moved the famly back to the Bowen Ranch north of San Angelo where Don was a rancher and a sculptor.
Donald married Josephine Butt BOWEN daughter of Oscar BUTT and Joyce on 25 Dec 1942. Josephine was born on 14 Aug 1920 in San Angelo, Texas. She died on 8 Mar 2005 in San Angelo, Texas.
Graduated from San Angelo High School in 1938 and attended Sul Ross College.
