132. Augustus D. SPRADLEY [image] "Gus" (Bryant Eugene , Bryant , James , Bryant , Andrew ) was born on 26 Sep 1861 in Collirene, Lowndes Co., Alabama. He died on 21 Jan 1954 in Coryell Co., Texas. He was buried in Levita Cemetery, Coryell Co., TX.

In the fall of 1872 the parents of Augustave Spradley left Collirene, Alabama for Texas, along with a number of other kin (see notes for Bryant Eugene Spradley). There were three children then, Augustus, Amelia Ann and Willoby Euguen. Gus Spradley was 11 years old at the time. They left by wagon for Selma, AL, then boarded a boat for the trip down the Alabama River to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, thence to New Orleans. They changed boats in New Orleans and sailed on to Galveston on the ship The Mary Susan, of the Morgan Line, arriving on Xmas Eve, 1872. Then by ox wagon to Milam County to meet up with some of the Todd family in Milam County that had migrated to Milam Co., TX a few years earlier and had convinced the rest of the family to follow.

Augustus married (1) Hannah Minerva MAXWELL daughter of Andrew Jackson MAXWELL and Narcissa KEEN on 4 Sep 1884 in Coryell Co., TX. Hannah was born on 21 Aug 1865. She died on 23 Dec 1895. She was buried in Pleasant Hill Cem.-near Rockdale, TX.

Hannah was the first of 6 daughters born to Andrew Jackson Maxwell and Narcissa Keen, both of whom are buried in the Levita Cemetery outside of Gatesville, TX. Hannah lived only 30 years and is buried in Milam, TX. She was married to Augustus D. Spradley on 9/4/1884. Her sister, Elizabeth Easter Maxwell married Isaac Rutherford, brother of Martha Rutherford who was second wife of Augustus D. Spradley.

Amelia told her rememberances about her father Bryant Eugene setting her up on the hogshead (a large wooden barrel) on the good ship Mary Susan when they were coming across the Gulf of Mexico on their way to Texas, so she could see around, and explaining about the trip and what they could see as they went along. Amelia Ann Spradley was married in Coryell Co., TX and lived there for a while before retruning to Milam Co. After her husband died she lived with the children. In 1950 she was living with hger daughter Ruth Simmons at Route 1, Lexington, TX. Then she lived several years with daughter Ruby Guthrie in Austin. Later she had been living with her son Warren Sanders in Richmond, TX. In her last years she fell and broke her hip in 1960 while living with her son Warren in Rosenberg, Texas. Moved to Austin for better care but never fully recovered.

317 F xi Dollie Pearl SPRADLEY was born on 22 Jun 1921 in South Bosque, McClennan Co., TX. She died on 1 Aug 1924 in South Bosque, McClennan Co., TX.

She was killed when her father hooked up a team of mules to a wagon to haul two eleven barrel metal water tanks for drinking use. When he returned he dropped the traces so they could not pull the wagon and left them for a few minutes. Dolly and Ollie, her twin brother, climbed up on the front of the wagon, when the mules decided to move and the neck yoke stayed on the end of the wagon toungue and pulled the wagon with the tanks on it. After running about 100 yards, the wagon eventually ran across a log under the shed and the children and the water barrels on the wagon fell off. One of the barrels crushed her. Dollie Pearl and Oakley left in the car immediately to McGregor to get the doctor, but she didn't survive.

She was killed when her father hooked up a team of mules to a wagon to haul two eleven barrel metal water tanks for drinking use. When he returned he dropped the traces so they could not pull the wagon and left them for a few minutes. Dolly and Ollie, her twin brother, climbed up on the front of the wagon, when the mules decided to move and the neck yoke stayed on the end of the wagon toungue and pulled the wagon with the tanks on it. After running about 100 yards, the wagon eventually ran across a log under the shed and the children and the water barrels on the wagon fell off. One of the barrels crushed her. Dollie Pearl and Oakley left in the car immediately to McGregor to get the doctor, but she didn't survive.
