Other Information & Questions about HALNet ADSL

  1. How do I know if I qualify for ADSL?
    • Your distance from your phone company central office and the nature and quality of your phone lines will determine whether you can use ADSL. We have an ADSL tech on staff, who will check to see if you qualify. Call our ADSL tech at 713-993-3300 Monday - Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

  2. Does HALNet ADSL offer STATIC IP Addresses?
    • YES, we offer STATIC IP Addresses. The charge is $10.00/mo for the FIRST STATIC IP Address and $5.00/mo for each ADDITIONAL STATIC IP Address.

  3. How many computers does HALNet allow per ADSL account?
    • We allow up to 3 IP Addresses per account.
    • S.W. Bell only allows 1 IP Address per account at their promotional rate! To connect more than one computer with SBC ADSL, you must purchase a router and pay a higher fee.

  4. I'm changing from another ADSL provider - can I use my existing ADSL modem with HALNet?
    • This depends on the equipment. Contact our ADSL tech at 713-993-3300, Monday - Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and be prepared to give him the make and model of your current equipment.

  5. I don't want to install my own equipment. Can I get someone to install it for me?
    • Upon customer request, HAL-PC will provide professional installation of the ADSL equipment on an exisiting line for a $200 charge.

  6. What are some of the differences between HALNet ADSL service and S.W. Bell's ADSL.
    • S.W. Bell forces you to use PPPoE. PPPoE makes your "always-on" ADSL internet connection act like a dial-up modem connection, where you have to make a connection each time you want to start using the internet. HALNet does not force you to do this because we do not make you use PPPoE.
    • S.W. Bell only allows you 1 IP Address per ADSL account, so you can only connect 1 computer - unless you set up a router and pay a higher fee. HALNet allows you 3 IP Addresses at its promotional rates, so you can connect 3 computers without having to bother with a router.

  7. Can I make a phone call or send a fax while I'm on the Internet with ADSL.
    • Yes you can. ADSL is "piggybacked" on to a regular phone line, so you can still make a phone call or send a fax over that line while your are using the ADSL part of the line to access the Internet.
